Job Description
Work Period: March - early July 2023
Pay: Starting $12/hour (Approx 24-30 hours per week), potential end of season bonus
Other Perks: Vegetarian lunch at the farm, take home surplus and culled vegetables
Schedule: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Fridays 8am-5pm and two Saturdays per month 7am-12:30pm (Farmers Market)
Job includes (but is not limited to):

Picking, washing, bunching, and packing vegetables. Washing out bins and coolers, sweeping barn packing area, planting (in greenhouse and in fields), weeding (with hoes and by hand), loading/unloading van, trellising, setting/removing stakes, assistance with other farm tasks as needed.

This job requires a lot of bending and lifting. We do our best to work efficiently and ergonomically to minimize the chance of injury. That said, it is very hard work. You will be sore from time to time.

We work in all weather, except lightning or severe storms. We also work amongst all of the critters and insects who call the farm home including fire ants, bees, wasps, and spiders.
Worker Expectations
Don’ts:

No tobacco on farm premises (tobacco mosaic leaf virus can transfer to plants, causing damage to our most important spring crops)

Do not handle or operate any motorized equipment without permission and training

Do not wear open toed shoes (or go barefoot!)

Do not come to work intoxicated (this includes cannabis and will lead to automatic firing)

No sitting while working in the field (it will greatly slow down work pace)

Do not use cell phone unless on break or given permission.

Do not use headphones unless given permission. This is both a safety and communication rule.
Do’s:

Arrive on time ready to work. Work starts at 8am unless otherwise stated.

Have a facemask with you at work. Wear as needed. (Our Covid-19 policy is constantly evolving and depends on covid variants as well the crew’s possible exposure levels)

Immediately wash hands for 20 seconds with soap as soon as you arrive to work

Help with post lunch clean up and dishes please

Dress appropriately for the weather: Wear long pants, close toed shoes, shirts that will protect you from the sun (we often wear spf 30 long sleeve shirts). Bring a hat and anything else you may need to work comfortably and safely.

Be ready to work in any weather (except lightning)

Be able to lift 30 pounds unassisted

Be able to work on feet all day

Ability to follow instructions

Have a good attitude and respect other workers (including volunteers) and property

Try to have clear and direct communication (ask questions, but understand we don’t always have time for discussion right then and there)
